Wild Dolphin Adventures

The Dolphin Communication Project

It was shortly after the release of the IMAX movie Dolphins in April of 2000 that the idea of a cooperative research project between The Dolphin Communication Project and Wild Dolphin Adventures/Bimini Undersea became a reality.

Much of the story of the MacGillvray Freeman Film centered on the research that had been conducted by Kathleen Dudzinski and her Dolphin Communication Project. Although the original research had been done by Dudzinski on the Little Bahamas Bank in the Northern Bahamas, when it came time to film the movie (a re-enactment), the producers chose to come to Bimini to work with Nowdla & Bill Keefe, and the Wild Dolphin Adventure crew.

During the filming, Kathleen (Dudzinski), Nowdla, and Bill often discussed the possibility of working together on a project. The following year, it was DCP Field Researcher ( and ex-Bimini Undersea Dive Instructor) Xenia Brobeil that put the project together and made it happen.

Brobeil's research began in the summer of 2001 and the cooperative DCP/WDA project has been on-going ever since. Beginning in 2003, the Bimini project has been headed up by DCP Field Researcher Kelly Melilo.

Each year, Wild Dolphin Adventures/Bimini Undersea provides DCP with access to all Wild Dolphin trips. Allowing them the opportunity to gather crucial data for their ongoing projects. The on-board researchers have also added a great aspect to Wild Dolphin Adventure trips. Allowing guests to make inquiries and gain insights into the world of these magnificent creatures.

We invite you to visit the DCP Bimini Overview page and learn more about this important research project.
