Nowdla (Stevenson) Keefe was born and raised in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. Her parents had come to Freeport on their honeymoon in the early 1960's from Toronto Canada. They loved Grand Bahama so much they decided to put down roots and call the island "home". Nowdla's Dad was an accountant from Toronto while Nowdla's Mom was a nurse and also an Inuit Eskimo born and raised in Labrador.
Nowdla's fascination with the ocean, and, Dolphins in particular began at a very early age. She became a certified SCUBA Diver while attending Freeport High School and then went on to become one of the youngest Bahamians to work as a Divemaster and Boat Captain for the Underwater Explorers Society (UNEXSO) in Lucaya.
Nowdla and Bill first met in Freeport back in 1981 when Bill came to the island to work as a SCUBA Instructor for UNEXSO. Then in 1984, while Nowdla was completing her undergraduate studies in Miami FL, Bill moved to the island of Bimini to take a position with Bimini Undersea Adventures. Following her graduation in 1986, Nowdla joined Bill on Bimini to co-manage the operation.
Following their wedding in December of 1986, Nowdla and Bill took over as owner/operators of Bimini Undersea Adventures. The transition officially took place in April of 1987. Soon after, the operations name was shortened to Bill & Nowdla Keefe's Bimini Undersea. Over the years, the Keefe's and Bimini Undersea became known as one of the best, small, family run diving operations in the resort diving industry.
As mentioned earlier, growing up in the islands, Nowdla had always been fascinated with Dolphins. The White Sand Ridge area on the Little Bahama Bank, the first location known for Atlantic Spotted Dolphin interactions, is located between the Abaco islands and her home island of Grand Bahama. It wasn't until 1994 when Nowdla first began hearing of Boat Captains encountering Atlantic Spotted Dolphins while travelling between Grand Bahama and Bimini, that she began to think that a similar phenomenon may be present near Bimini. Eventually Nowdla began leading exploratory trips out in search of the Dolphins. And, in early 1995, she officially documented the existence of the Bahamas second resident pod of Atlantic Spotted Dolphins on the Great Bahama Bank north of Bimini island.
Later that same year she began organizing trips allowing people the opportunity to view, swim, and interact with these amazing creatures, in their environment and on their terms. And thus, Bill & Nowdla Keefe's Wild Dolphin Adventures was born.
Today, with more than 15 years experience conducting these trips, Bimini is recognized as one of the few places in the world where people can have this experience. And, Nowdla is recognized as one of the foremost Bahamian authorities on Wild Dolphin behavior.
Nowdla received an Associate's Degree from the International Fine Arts College in Miami FL and currently works with the Bahamas Marine Mammal Stranding Network as Bimini's representative.
Bill holds a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven and has periodically served on the Board of Directors for the Bahamas Association. Bill also works part time for world renowned peak performance coach and motivational speaker Tony Robbins and Robbins Research International. Bill travels the world with the Robbins organization and is in charge of the Firewalk process done as part of the company's signature live event, Unleash The Power Within.
Nowdla and Bill live on Bimini with their 2 daughters, Shannon and Kaila. Both are avid Free Divers and SCUBA Divers who can regularly be seen assisting "Mom & Dad" aboard the Wild Dolphin Adventure trips.
